Sunset boys, girls rally to All-Star wins
Spring Valley's Blake Ringer had eight kills, 17 digs and two aces to help the Sunset Region rally past the Sunrise 22-25, 29-27, 15-8 in the Southern Nevada Senior All-Star Game at Las Vegas High.
The Grizzlies' Dallas Teshima dished out 14 assists for the Sunset, which got four kills, four digs and four aces from Centennial's Dylan Morris.
Silverado's Steven Jex had five kills and two blocks to help the Sunrise to the first-set win.
But Ringer took over from there, tallying five kills in the second set in helping the Sunset get the win in the inaugural event.
Centennial's Josh Arias had 13 digs and Bonanza's Craig Whiting eight assists for the Sunset.
Jex finished with seven kills and two blocks. Coronado's Jahren Makanoa had six kills and 10 digs and Silverado's Brian Theophil 10 digs, two kills and two aces for the Sunrise. Coronado's Byrin Romney and Las Vegas' Luke Hansen had 10 assists apiece for the Sunrise.
GIRLS
■ Sunset 2, Sunrise 1 -- Sierra Vista's Morgan Malone had 19 assists and five aces, and Bishop Gorman's Liz Manthei added 10 kills and three blocks as the Sunset surged to a 24-26, 25-12, 15-9 win.
Faith Lutheran's Paige Henderson added six kills and three aces for the Sunset, which got six kills, four digs and three blocks from the Mountain Lions' Brooke Robinson.
Green Valley's Emma Johnson paced the Sunrise with eight kills and four digs, and Coronado's Katie Gamsky distributed 13 assists.
The Cougars' Michell Lisowski had 17 digs, and Silverado's Marilyn Agae added seven assists for the Sunrise.
