PROVO, Utah — Lee Cummard scored 20 points and Bishop Gorman High School product Jonathan Tavernari 19 to lead Brigham Young past New Mexico 83-66 on Saturday.
BYU (15-5) gained a share of the Mountain West Conference lead with UNLV at 4-1.
The Cougars earned their 42nd straight home win before a season-high 19,932 fans.
Tavernari scored 16 points in the first half and Sam Burgess nine, helping BYU take a 44-24 lead.
BYU finished 13-for-16 from the 3-point line, including 5-for-6 by Tavernari and 3-for-3 by Burgess, who finished with 15 points. Trent Plaisted added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Gary Dairese led New Mexico with 17 points. The Lobos shot 27 percent in the first half and 34 percent for the game.
• Utah 74, Texas Christian 58 — At Salt Lake City, Johnnie Bryant made a school-record eight 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead the Utes (11-7, 2-3 MWC) past the Horned Frogs (11-7, 3-2).
Utah snapped a three-game skid that included two overtime losses and one in the final seconds against BYU.
Luke Nevill and Shaun Green each added 16 points for the Utes, who finished with 14 3-pointers.
Bryant and three other players shared the previous Utah record with seven 3-pointers in a game. Bryant had done it most recently, against Virginia on Dec. 20, 2006.
Brent Hackett had 15 points for TCU, which was held scoreless for the first seven-plus minutes.
• Wyoming 73, Colorado State 58 — At Laramie, Wyo., Travis Nelson had 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench, lifting the Cowboys (7-11, 1-5 MWC) over the Rams (6-13, 0-5).
Brandon Ewing finished with 19 points and Joseph Taylor 14 for Wyoming.
Colorado State was led by Marcus Walker with 26 points.
