Adam Tebbs started well in his defense of his Las Vegas City Amateur golf title last weekend at Las Vegas Golf Club. He finished even better.
Tebbs bested the field of local golfers for the second straight year, firing a 5-under-par 67 on the final day to defeat Craig Junio by three shots in the championship division. Tebbs birdied all four par 5s and, with three birdies on his first seven holes, took control of the tournament. He finished at 9-under 135.
Junio, the first-round leader after a 6-under 66, shot par 72 Sunday. He carded three bogeys on the front side of his final round and, despite consecutive birdies on the back nine at Nos. 13 and 14, couldn’t rally past Tebbs.
Frank Acker finished third at 140. Acker also won the senior gross division with a 2-under 142.
In the championship net division, Richard Walsh defeated Eric Conway in a playoff after both posted 9-under 135s. David Chenard was eight strokes back at 143.
Following Acker in the senior gross division were Steve Paulsen and Cyrus Whitney, who tied for second after each posted a two-day total of 145. Wayne Barzekoff and Gary Lanzen tied for fourth at 146.
Robert Carr was the senior net division winner with a 3-under 141. Tom Khamis and John Orfe tied for second at 144.
The next Southern Nevada Golf Association event will be the Clark County Amateur and Senior Amateur, to be held Nov. 15-18 at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
