Travis Taijeron headed to Triple-A Home Run Derby

Las Vegas 51s outfielder Travis Taijeron will compete in the Triple-A Home Run Derby on Monday at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, the league announced Tuesday.

Taijeron is tied for the team lead with 13 home runs, while leading in the Pacific Coast League with 34 doubles and 50 extra-base hits. His 68 RBIs are third in the league and his 38 home runs since the beginning of last season are second-most in the PCL.

Taijeron is one of three PCL players named to the Home Run Derby, along with Reno’s Kyle Jensen and Oklahoma City’s Rob Segedin. For the International League, the three players are Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Aaron Judge, Pawtucket’s Chris Marrero and Buffalo’s Jesus Montero.

Along with the six Triple-A players, two local North Carolina high school players will also compete: Charlotte Country Day School’s Trent Ashley and Lake Norman High School’s Riley Zayicek..

Taijeron was named an All-Star for the second year in a row June 30. He will be joined in the game by third baseman T.J. Rivera, pitcher Gabriel Ynoa and manager Wally Backman.
