Twitter loves UNLV’s thrashing of SDSU, hates the uniforms

The Rebels thrashed San Diego State University on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium, winning 45-19 thanks in large part to Devante Davis and Caleb Herring.

UNLV owned the game after giving up a touchdown early in the first quarter. The comfortable lead gave Twitter time to focus on something besides points: UNLV’s uniforms.

“UNLV uniforms look like a wire frame of a uniform. That light gray looks like a draft, not a final design,” tweeted @richeson.

“Why are both #SDSU and #UNLV wearing light jerseys?? Confusing,” tweeted @CoachFore.

“UNLV’s unis look like lavender and pink on my TV…. was this intended?” tweeted @LisaHorne.

Probably not.

The uniforms were a constant source of complaints throughout the game, probably because UNLV wasn’t giving Twitter much else to complain about. Wide receiver Devante Davis caught four touchdown passes for the night, tying the school record for the most touchdown passes in a single game. He also became the first receiver in UNLV history with three three-touchdown games.

“Wow. Davis is something. If he stays at UNLV next year, (he) could be one of best receivers ever at the school,” tweeted @AlBernstein.

Quarterback Caleb Herring didn’t fare too badly, either, with 330 total yards and six touchdowns, tying the school record with five touchdown passes.

“Always was a fan of Caleb Herring. Good to see him put it all together his (senior) year & take this team all the way to a bowl game,” tweeted @RealSeanB.

Despite San Diego’s best efforts to catch up, Twitter had the game pretty much wrapped up by the third quarter.

“UNLV, so proud if you guys this year. Praying you get that bowl game,” tweeted @discyple1.

“#UNLVFB is embarrassing San Diego State… Is this real life? I can’t believe my eyes,” tweeted @JesseGranger_.

UNLV finished the regular season 7-5, with more wins than the last three season’s combined six.

“Not gonna lie… Crying tears of joy right now! So proud of UNLV getting to a bowl game!” tweeted @rachael702.

“It feels good to be a Rebel! My Alma Mater has just guaranteed themselves a winning season!” tweeted @A_M_Schneider.

It was also only the fourth winning season for the Rebels since 1986.

“Gotta say it one more time. B. E. A. Utiful,” tweeted @DarwinJMorgan.

“Good win, Rebels. Very pleased to say I was proven 100% wrong by #UNLVfb,” tweeted @bleav11.

“Couldn’t be more proud of Coach Hauck and #UNLVFB,” tweeted @therebelblog.

Those uniforms, though.

“(The) all-gray uniforms are prison ugly,” tweeted @JeffinOKC.
