UNLV in discussions to move football game with Arizona to University of Phoenix Stadium

UNLV is in discussions with Arizona to move its Sept. 7 football game from Sam Boyd Stadium to University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Rebels athletic director Jim Livengood said he was optimistic a deal would get done, and an announcement probably would come next week.

“It’s not a done deal,” Livengood said Thursday. “There are still some things we’re trying to work through. It’s in the contractual stage. We’re trying to put the pieces together to make it work for everybody.”

The Arizona game was supposed to be the the Rebels’ home opener, but Livengood said UNLV would receive a large guarantee by moving the game.

“That’s the only way we’d do it,” he said. “We would still have six games at Sam Boyd Stadium. We feel we need to have at least six home games every year.”

Livengood didn’t divulge how much money UNLV might receive, but said that figure would be part of any announcement.
