Oda, UNLV men’s golf team narrowly miss moving to national finals

The No. 25-ranked UNLV men’s golf team shot a final-round 6-under-par 282 on Wednesday and finished sixth at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, one spot out of advancing to the national finals.

Georgia won the team title by four strokes in the 13-team event at 16-under 848 after a final-round 6-under 282. South Carolina was second at 12 under, followed by Alabama at 7 under, Kentucky at 6 under and Auburn at 3 over.

UNLV finished with a 54-hole score of 11-over 875, and College of Charleston was seventh at 23 over.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each of the six NCAA regional sites advanced to the NCAA Championship finals, which will be played May 27-June 1 in Eugene, Oregon.

Georgia’s Greyson Sigg earned medalist honors by one stroke with a 9-under 207.

UNLV sophomore John Oda led the Rebels and tied for eighth at 3-under 213 after a final-round 2-under 70. He was the next individual finisher not on an advancing team.

Other scorers for the Rebels in the 75-player field included senior Zane Thomas (1-under 215, tied for 10th), sophomore Shintaro Ban (10-over 226, tied for 46th), freshman Harry Hall (11-over 227, tied for 50th) and sophomore Ben Davis (17-over 233, tied for 60th).
