Hello Rebel fans! I hope you’re enjoying this boring offseason 🙂 Well, if you’re a real Rebel fan, you know it’s been anything BUT boring! Here’s the short recap:
First, the Runnin’ Rebels had to make some quick negotiations to keep their coach after he was offered a job in South Florida. Then they lose a couple of key players to the NBA draft – Roscoe Smith and Khem Birch.
The Runnin’ Rebels also lost & gained an assistant coach. Heath Schroyer left to be the head coach at University of Tennessee-Martin, and Ryan Miller, formerly of Auburn, was hired. Coach Miller is seen as one of the top recruiters in the nation so Rebel fans are very excited to see who he can bring in to the program.
Meanwhile, the football team got the bad news that they are not bowl-eligible this season. This comes after they played in their first bowl in 13 years last year. Talk about a let down!
But hey, it’s baseball season, so let’s focus on those boys. The Hustlin’ Rebels are 28-15/16-8 MW and swept New Mexico this weekend to take over 1st place in the conference. The Rebels outscored the Lobos 39-10 in the three-game set. The baseball team will be on the road for the next couple of weekends, but they return home on May 13 and close out the regular season at home the following weekend.
It’s also UNLV’s turn to host the Mountain West baseball championship (May 21-25), which couldn’t come at a better time. The Rebels are 18-2 at home this year. If they can continue their success at home, they have a good chance to fulfill their goal of making it to Omaha for the College World Series.
Well, Rebel fans, other than that, not much is going on. I hope you’re enjoying the lovely spring weather and make sure you get out to Earl E. Wilson stadium in 3 weeks to watch the Rebels finish out the regular season against our rivals, the Nevada Wolf Pack.
