Rebels overcome sluggish start, lead 39-25

UNLV looked disinterested on offense and somewhat inept on defense for the first few minutes of the game as Southern Utah opened up an early 12-6 lead at the Thomas & Mack Center on Tuesday night.
Eventually, the Rebels were able to get things going and surged to a 14-point lead at halftime.
Joe Darger hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to give UNLV momentum going into the break.
Rene Rougeau led the way with 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting and three rebounds for the Rebels.
Kendall Wallace and Tre’Von Willis played well in the first half off of the bench and will have to keep it up if the Rebels are without Wink Adams in the second half.
Wallace had six points and two assists, while Willis had four points. One of Wallace’s assists was an alley-oop pass that Rougeau finished with a dunk.
Oscar Bellfield had eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
Dave Marek had 10 points to pace the Thunderbirds.

Adams injury

It was very tough to see what happened to Adams as he was injured in the first half.
No replays of the incident were shown in the arena.
At first glance, it looked as if he may have been hit in his most sensitive of areas.
But his reaction and the way he was taken from the court seemed to suggest a different story.
He stayed face-first on the ground for several minutes, and when he finally was carried off, he put absolutely no pressure on his legs as two members of the UNLV staff carried him to the locker room.
There is still no official word from the team on the senior guard’s injury.

What economic crisis?

Apparently, the economic downturn suffered by just about every sector has not yet reached the UNLV dance team.
The Rebel Girls have debuted two new Christmas outfits already tonight.
It’s difficult to determine exactly how much a dance team uniform runs, but it’s not likely you can find eight such outfits on the clearance rack at Marshall’s.
