Former UNLV head coach Jerry Tarkanian was remembered by friends, family, fans, former players and others in the Las Vegas community at the Thomas & Mach Center on Sunday.

Former UNLV head coach Jerry Tarkanian was remembered by friends, family, fans, former players and others in the Las Vegas community at the Thomas & Mach Center on Sunday.
Tarkanian died of respiratory and cardiac failure at 9:05 a.m. on Feb. 11 at age 84 at Valley Hospital Medical Center.
Tarkanian, an inductee into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, coached 31 years on the Division I level.
In his 19-year term with UNLV, Tarkanian took the Rebels to the Final Four four times, winning the NCAA title in 1990, the only one the program has ever won.
Since his passing, Las Vegas and other cities nationwide have mourned. The lights of the Las Vegas Strip were dimmed for the ninth time for Tarkanian after the UNLV-Boise State game at Thomas & Mack.
In final, fitting farewell, Tarkanian’s ‘true legacy was love’
