Lady Rebels spurt to consolation win

A 20-2 run in the second half carried UNLV’s women’s basketball team to a 76-65 victory over Cal State-Fullerton in the consolation game of the Lady Rebel Round-Up on Saturday at Cox Pavilion.

Shamela Hampton led UNLV with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Erica Helms added 15 points and India Chaney 10.

The Lady Rebels (5-1) shot 66.7 percent in the second half, quickly erasing a 34-28 deficit with an 11-2 spurt.

Fullerton (2-3) took a 49-48 lead with 11 minutes to play, then shot only 1-for-15 during UNLV’s clinching 20-2 run that spanned seven minutes.

Toni Thomas led the Titans with 14 points.

In the championship game, Georgia routed Eastern Washington, 75-51.

The Lady Rebels will play their first road game Tuesday at Texas Tech.
