Position breakdown: Tonight’s UNLV-UNR game

Breaking down the UNLV basketball team’s game against UNR at 7 p.m. today at the Thomas & Mack Center:

BACKCOURT

UNR’s Marqueze Coleman averages 16.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. But the Rebels are deeper in the backcourt, and if their guards push the ball, they probably win.

Edge: UNLV

FRONTCOURT

UNR won the rebounding battle 41-34 when the teams met in January, and that was when UNLV still had post players Stephen Zimmerman Jr. and Ben Carter before each suffered a knee injury. UNR’s Cameron Oliver had 20 points and 24 rebounds last Saturday against Fresno State.

Edge: UNR

BENCH

Neither team is particularly deep, but the Wolf Pack’s Tyron Criswell (11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds) and Eric Cooper (9.6 points) are quality players.

Edge: UNR

INTANGIBLES

UNLV is a different team at home, having gone 10-3. The Rebels also are motivated to make up for the two-point loss in Reno.

Edge: UNLV

BOTTOM LINE

Betting line: UNLV -5½
