5 Howard players to watch Saturday vs. UNLV

Five Howard football players to watch when the Bison visit UNLV at 6 p.m. Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium:

1. Running back Anthony Philyaw, senior. Was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason offensive player of the year. Comes off a first-team all-conference season in which he rushed for 1,230 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt.

2. Quarterback Caylin Newton, freshman. Won the battle for the starting job, and is attracting a lot of attention because of his last name. Older brother is Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton.

3. Wide receiver Kyle Anthony, sophomore. Led the Bison last season with 40 catches for 535 yards and six touchdowns. Was named to the MEAC’s preseason second team.

4. Linebacker Elijah Anglin, senior. Led the team with eight tackles for loss and four sacks. Also had 46 tackles.

5. Linebacker David Lee, senior. Finished third on the Bison with 48 tackles, including 4.5 for loss and one sack.
