Ex-Rebel Beau Bell named Arena Football League’s top defender

Former UNLV star linebacker Beau Bell was named the Arena Football League Defensive Player of the Year on Friday.

Bell, who plays for the Philadelphia Soul, leads the AFL with 15 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He also has 31½ tackles.

This is Bell’s seventh season in the league and third with the Soul.

He was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2007, leading the conference with 126 tackles and five forced fumbles. Bell also made 9½ tackles for loss, including three sacks, and four interceptions.
