Groundbreaking for the Fertitta Football Complex at UNLV’s Rebel Park is scheduled for Jan. 23.
It won’t be open to the public.
The project is expected to cost $28.5 million for the two-story, 73,000-square-foot facility. The Nevada Board of Regents in September approved financing for a bank loan of up to almost $16 million.
UNLV coach Tony Sanchez, who often has touted the importance of having such a facility when trying to attract top recruits, spearheaded the fundraising effort. He was instrumental in landing a $10 million pledge by the Fertitta family in September 2016.
Construction is expected to take about 10 months.
