1 dead, 3 hurt in rollover crash in south Las Vegas

Updated September 28, 2017 - 11:08 am

One person was killed and three others were injured Wednesday night after a rollover crash in the south Las Vegas Valley.

About 10:40 p.m. Wednesday police received reports of a black sedan driving recklessly near Eastern Avenue and Pebble Road, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Peter Kisfalvi said. As the sedan traveled west on Pebble, the driver tried to pass another vehicle but hit the side of it.

Kisfalvi said that second vehicle, a red sedan, was forced into oncoming traffic and was struck by a silver minivan.

The driver of the black sedan lost control, Kisfalvi said, and the car rolled over and struck a water truck. The driver of the sedan, a 29-year-old man, died at the scene.

Three occupants in the sedan and minivan were hospitalized with minor to moderate injuries, Kisfalvi said.

Pebble Road was shut down at Eastern while Metro’s fatal detail investigated.

Family members at the scene begged police for more information. An officer chased down a woman who crossed under the police tape to see the scene for herself.

“It’s already on the news,” another woman sobbed. “Why does the public get to find out before the family?”

The Clark County Coroner’s office will identify the person who died after next of kin are notified.

This is the 100th traffic-related death Metro has investigated this year.
