Motorcyclist killed in crash on US Highway 95 was riding stolen bike

A motorcyclist who died Thursday after a crash on U.S. Highway 95 near Indian Springs was driving a stolen bike when he died, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The patrol said in a release that the motorcylist was riding a silver 2003 Yamaha YZFR sport motorcycle southbound on the highway about 5:24 a.m. when it left the roadway near mile marker 112 and struck a culvert , ejecting him. The rider was declared dead at the scene, it said.

The Clark County coroner’s office earlier identified the victim as William Allen Kouba, 42.

The highway patrol said Kouba was from Las Vegas and was riding a motorcycle that had been reported as stolen, though it did nor provide any details on the alleged theft.

The highway patrol’s fatal crash unit is continuing to investigate.
