NHP investigating deadly crash on state Route 160

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash early Thursday on state Route 160.

The crash was reported just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Highway Patrol’s traffic site.

Trooper Jason Buratczuk said a silver 2017 Infiniti SUV was headed north on the state route in the left lane near Mountain Springs. He said the driver lost control and drove the SUV onto the dirt shoulder before spinning across the northbound lanes and flipping onto the right dirt shoulder’s desert terrain. The driver was ejected and died at the scene.

He was Douglas Baird, 58, the Highway Patrol said.

It wasn’t clear whether he was impaired, and the crash is under investigation.

This is the 53rd traffic death investigated by the Highway Patrol’s Southern Nevada division this year.
