11-year-old charged with manslaughter in death of toddler

An 11-year-old Detroit boy was charged with manslaughter on Wednesday after accidentally shooting a 3-year-old boy.

Police said the boy was visiting his father on Monday when he took a gun from a bedroom closet, the Detroit Free Press reported. The boy, who wasn't identified because he is a minor, threw the gun out of a window, retrieved it and went into a parked vehicle in the backyard, police said.

The 3-year-old, identified as Elijah Walker, went into the car and was shot in the face. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

In court, the boy's attorney said he may not be fit to stand trial and wasn't regularly attending school. His bail was set at $5,000.

It is unknown if his father will face any charges as the investigation is still ongoing.
