Thirteen local restaurants are scheduled to participate in the Building Champions Against the Odds Campaign to benefit the Nevada Children's Center on Wednesday, International Children's Day.

The campaign is taken from the nonprofit center's slogan, as it works to rehabilitate children against the odds, as many of its clients are working to overcome challenges due to mental and/or behavioral issues.

On Wednesday, participating restaurants have pledged to donate between 10 and 20 percent of their revenue to the center. Restaurants scheduled to take part include Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, 7160 N. Durango Drive, and Joe's Crab Shack, 1991 N. Rainbow Blvd.

Diners are asked to bring a flier that can be downloaded at nccenter.org.

Springs Preserve to host
Brews and Blues Festival

The Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., is scheduled to host the Brews and Blues Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Breweries scheduled to participate include New Belgium, Widmer Bros., Kona, Tenaya Creek and more.

Performances by local and regional bands also are planned for two stages.

Advance tickets are $25 per person and $30 the day of the event. Springs Preserve members receive $5 off.

Texas Station to host
Jerry Tiffe Spaghetti Social today

Texas Station plans to present the Jerry Tiffe Spaghetti Social at
4:30 p.m. today at the Dallas Events Center, 2101 Texas Star Lane.

The all-you-can-eat pasta buffet is open to guests of all ages, but those under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are $13 and are available by calling 547-5300.

Grimaldi's announces dining specials

Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria at Boca Park, 750 S. Rampart Blvd., is offering red or white sangria for $6 a glass.

The restaurant also is offering Tuesday Tastings from open to close every Tuesday, featuring half off glasses and bottles of wine now through September.

The offer excludes house wine and sangria and is not available on featured wines or with any other offers.

Fleming's announces Prime Celebrations menu

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8721 W. Charleston Blvd., is offering a Prime Celebrations menu for $50 per guest or $100 per couple through June 30.

Appetizers (choice of one) are classic Caesar salad, Fleming's salad, The Wedge and chef's seasonal soup. Entrees (choice of one) are petite filet mignon, New York strip, double chicken breast and tuna mignon. Sides (choice of one) are grilled high country asparagus, sautéed mushrooms, Fleming's potatoes and mashed potatoes. Desserts (choice of one) are creme brulee, cheesecake and walnut turtle pie. Beverage choices are coffee tea and soda.

Springs Cafe hosting Sunday brunch

The Springs Cafe at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., plans to host an a la carte brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Sunday through June.

The cost is $21 for adults, $12.50 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children 3 or younger. Coffee and soda are included.

Springs Preserve members receive 10 percent off the brunches.

Fleming's adds new items to menu

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8721 W. Charleston Blvd., has introduced two new entree salads to its menu, reinvented the classic shrimp cocktail and lightened its scallop offering.

The menu now features the Steakhouse Cobb salad entree, the seared New Bedford scallops entree and a shrimp cocktail appetizer.

The Steakhouse Cobb salad features Maine lobster or filet mignon tossed with romaine lettuce, blue cheese, crisp bacon, tomato and avocado, along with white mushrooms and asparagus. The salad with lobster comes with tarragon ranch dressing, while the filet mignon option comes with signature red onion balsamic dressing.

The seared New Bedford scallops entree features four to five large scallops, lightly seasoned with a spice blend and finished with Meyer lemon oil-honey glaze. The entree is garnished with shaved young green beans, asparagus and baby carrots in lemon balsamic dressing.

The shrimp cocktail has three large fresh shrimp on a bed of crushed ice, served tableside with signature tomato horseradish sauce in a silver shaker. A touch of Grey Goose vodka is added before shaking.
