Aliante Park to hold fundraiser

The first Annual Family Fun Day/Fundraising Picnic for Medtyme Emergency Medical Relief Association will be held on Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Nature Discovery Park located in Aliante’s master-planned community in North Las Vegas.

MEMRA is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization devoted to supporting individuals in need of medical assistance who do not have necessary health care insurance or resources.

MEMRA provides medical emergency relief assistance, support, resources and referrals.

This also includes providing medical equipment and supplies, whether new, used, rented, donated and discounted.

Rosalind Jamerson-Cobb, who is founding director of MEMRA and a resident of Aliante, said, “We’re on a mission to let people out there to know that help is here.

“Not all will get in touch with this cause, but if we can help seven people a month that’s seven better than none.

“When we think of a person not able to fill a prescription due to no insurance or lack of income, we consider it a major disaster.”

Jamerson-Cobb noted that MEMRA recently helped a family by paying two nights for their hotel stay and gas. The mother had surgery and was told she might not make it. The family had no place to stay and no money for travel to the hospital.

“These types of stories touch our hearts. There was no way we could not step in to help. This is what this mission is all about,” she said.

“Our first annual family fund day/fundraising picnic will be designed to promote personal interaction, drawing a great diversity of people with the common goal of working together, to help individuals in need by donating new, used or previously owned medical equipment for those with no medical support,” she said.

“The event will include great food, drinks, popcorn, magic shows, cartoon characters, kid’s jumpers, raffles, gift cards and fun activities for the whole family. The North Las Vegas Fire Department will also participate with activities for the children to enjoy. Organizing a special event like this is a fun way to provide social interaction, which bonds our community together by developing friendships and neighborhood spirit.”

Ultimately, this promotes the provision of mutual aid and support to our neighbors, neighboring communities or those in times of need when a medical emergency occurs.”

The picnic is free and open to the public. Monetary donations of any size will be accepted.

Monetary assistance and/or relief is awarded in the form of emergency or financial aid. MEMRA services are provided to individuals regardless of diagnosis, age, gender, religion, race or creed.

The organization was organized exclusively for charitable, medical emergency relief, or assisting purposes within the meaning of a 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. For more information call 586-4MED.

Movie posters might soon be based on your clicks

You may have thought you left Blockbuster behind, but the basic way we browse movies hasn’t changed all that much.
