Another weekend, another Reid road trip

Another weekend, another Harry Reid roadtrip to raise re-election money.

The Senate majority leader from Nevada is scheduled in North Carolina tonight for a reception in Cary, in the high-tech Research Triangle. The cost to get in the door ranges from $1,000 to $5,000.

According to the Raleigh News & Observer, one of his hosts is Dennis Gillings, chairman and chief executive of Quintiles Transnational Corp., a pharmaceutical services company. Another is Richard Sullivan, who was finance director at the Democratic National Committee during the Clinton administration.

Not clear yet what Reid is doing on Saturday. But he is scheduled to wake up Sunday in Cincinnati, Ohio. Superlawyer Stan Chesley, whose big case at present is a major class action lawsuit against Toyota, is putting out brunch for Reid and friends at his home in Indian Hill.

The minimum contribution is $500, but donors can give as much as $10,000.

Reid has been packing his toothbrush fairly regularly in recent weeks as he looks to add to a campaign warchest that he wants to build to $25 million.

Last weekend he was in Chicago. Earlier in the month he raised money in Greenwich, Conn. In Washington this past week, his leadership deputies and a number of Senate committee chairmen threw a fundraising breakfast for him.

According to the most recent reports at the Federal Election Commission, Reid has raised $16.7 million during the 2005-2010 campaign cycle, and had $9.4 million available to spend as of the end of March.
