As many as 25,000 students will soon be attending one of Summerlin’s 26 schools for the 2010-2011 school year. The community is home to 12 public schools and 14 private schools. According to Kevin Orrock, top division executive for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, this is more than any other single community in Southern Nevada.
Many Summerlin schools rank among Southern Nevada’s top-performing in terms of academics, athletics and extracurricular involvement.
“Thousands of residents have moved to Summerlin for its schools because families know the value of a good education,” Orrock said. “Caliber schools are an invaluable community amenity.”
According to Orrock, the Meadows School is the only school in Nevada that places 100 percent of its graduates in four-year accredited colleges and universities. Bishop Gorman High School is the only Catholic High School in Southern Nevada with a tradition of athletic excellence with more than 65 state championships during its 56-year history. Palo Verde High School boasts an internationally touring choir and recipient of the 2007 top show group in America in addition to 17 athletic state championships during its 14-year history. The Adelson Educational Campus is the only Jewish school in Nevada offering pre-kindergarten to grade 12.
“This is just a small sampling of the educational, athletic and cultural achievements of our schools,” Orrock said.
“We’re proud of their accomplishments and look forward to their continued success for years to come.”
