The Candlelighters 5K & One Mile Race for our Kids will be held Sept. 8 at Mountain’s Edge, a master-planned community in the southwest. The event, which will be held in the community’s 80-acre Exploration Park at 9275 S. Buffalo Drive, south of Blue Diamond Road, is presented by Mountain’s Edge and Wal-Mart.
There’s still time to join, organize or donate to a team or participate individually to help children with cancer and their families. Support and programming is provided through the nonprofit Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada.
Mailed registration forms must be postmarked by Monday and the online registration deadline is Tuesday. The forms and other information, including in-person registration and packet pickup, are available at www.candlelightersnv.org or by calling 702-737-1919.

Costs to participate are $25 for team members, $30 for individual adults, $20 for seniors 65 and older, $15 for children 3-12, $40 race-day registration, and free for childhood cancer survivors, children younger than 3, and those not participating in the race or run. Leashed, well-behaved pets are welcome.
The Candlelighters 5K & One Mile Race for our Kids features many other activities in addition to the race and walk. With military-style obstacles, the Boot Camp Las Vegas Obstacle Course is available for 5K racers after their run.
For children, there are play and art activities. A variety of raffle prizes include a Disneyland trip for four. There’s also a bone marrow drive, awards ceremony, booth and exhibitors and food and refreshments.
Chet Buchanan, KLUC-FM (98.5) radio’s Morning Zoo personality, and Brian Loftus, KLAS-TV, traffic anchor for 8 News Now, will host the event.
After the day’s activities, participants and visitors are invited to explore the 3,500-acre community, tour model homes and learn about the community.
