Chapman’s Jeep helps support USO Las Vegas

Chapman Chrysler Jeep and Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram partnered with the United Service Organizations’ Las Vegas Center for the first “Jam A Jeep” program to gather items that the center could distribute to servicemen, servicewomen and veterans.

The dealerships delivered Jeeps to all Sam’s Club stores July 13 and all Big Lots stores July 14 with the goal of filling them with nonperishable food, merchandise and toiletries. The USO Las Vegas Center’s goals were easily surpassed and the community support was outstanding, according to Doug Bradford, USO Las Vegas Center director.

During the weekend event, more than $7,500 worth of products such as individually wrapped packets of crackers, peanuts, cookies, granola bars, hard candy and travel-size toiletries were donated by Sam’s Club and Big Lots customers, and more than $2,000 in cash was raised.

“Since we opened our doors in November of 2010, we’ve served some 85,000 military guests,” Bradford said. “All of the monies and supplies we collect are from the community, as we don’t receive any federal funding. This is a really big deal for USO Las Vegas as the Chapman automotive dealerships, Sam’s Club and Big Lots stepped up to support us because these donated items will go directly to our nation’s military as they depart from the airport on the way to their missions overseas and elsewhere.”

The USO and Jeep, both founded in 1941, share a history in supporting military members. The mission of the USO is to enhance the quality of life of the United States military and their families worldwide. The USO is the way for Americans to support and thank the troops for their service and sacrifice. Plans are in the works for a satellite facility in Terminal 3 at McCarran International Airport.

“We share a common interest in supporting our military,” said Gary Brewer, general manager of Chapman Chrysler Jeep. “We got to make several trips to the USO offices to empty the jammed Jeeps that day. It kept us busy and we’re thankful for the community support.”

This year, the Jeep brand, in partnership with the USO, launches “Operation SAFE Return,” a multidimensional program created to address the special needs of returning servicemen and women as well as their families. Along with a minimum of $1 million Chrysler will donate to the USO, Chapman delivered a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee to be used as the official USO vehicle locally.
