Cop fired after singing with death metal band in uniform

A Florida police officer was fired after video showed him singing on stage in uniform at a death metal concert.

Police said Sanford, Fla., Officer Andrew Ricks attended the Vital Remains show at West End Trading Company on Nov. 13, according to report from WFTV. Ricks joined the band on stage and sang a song called “Dechristianize,” which included the lyrics, “Let the killing begin.”

The incident was caught on camera, posted on YouTube and a copy was sent to the department's police chief.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said in a statment that Ricks' actions "erode the thin fibers of trust which already exist between the community and the police," and that they "will not be tolerated within the Sanford Police Department."

Reports noted that Ricks had submitted a letter of resignation from the department on Oct. 30, with a pending separation date of Nov. 20.

Ricks had worked for the department for six years, and last week's incident was the first time he had been in trouble.
