PICK OF THE WEEK:
DEL MAR CAFÉ
2950 S. Durango Drive, 233-1363
Jim Puckett loves horse racing and the Del Mar Racetrack. If you have an interest in either, go see Jim and enjoy one of the winning menu items named after great horses and jockeys. Secretariat is New York steak and eggs with potatoes and a choice of toast, biscuit or English muffin. Seabiscuit is a two-egg skillet with onions, mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes topped with Swiss and avocado. The popular Man of War omelet has bacon, avocado, spinach, roasted red peppers and jack cheese. There are Winner's Circle waffles, Stretch Run pancakes, Morning Workout Benedicts and breakfast sandwiches. Cold sandwiches include the popular house pastrami on rye with fries, coleslaw or potato salad, BLT, veggie croissant, egg or tuna salad and meatloaf on sourdough. Hot sandwiches are grilled pastrami with Swiss, Philly cheese, Reuben and build-your-own hamburgers. Specialty jockey burgers are the Johnny Longden (bacon, avocado, bleu cheese) and Chris McCarron (mushrooms, bacon, Swiss). Featured salads are Greek (David Flores), spinach (Angel Cordero Jr.) and Julie Krone, a chef salad with turkey, bacon, roast beef, boiled eggs, tomatoes, Swiss, American and provolone. Breakfast begins at $6.29 and hamburgers at $7.49. Del Mar Café is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. -- Jack Bulavsky
