After looking at a number of neighborhoods, Mike Wilkins put a deposit on a home in Canyons Estates in August 2008. “I’d looked at these houses for quite awhile and I’ve loved them,” he said.
When there was a problem, Wilkins said he was helped immensely by Mary Musso, Distinctive Homes’ corporate broker and president of sales and marketing.
“I assist in problem solving by overseeing the overall scope of customer service and this includes working with and, often, helping our buyer. When, as in (Wilkin’s) case, extraordinary conditions prevail, I work to get any issues resolved in a way that’s equitable to buyer, lender and builder,” Musso said.

His lender told him that funding would be available for a move-in date at the end of the year, so he left his rental and prepared to move.
“My loan officer said I could move out of my rental home three days before Christmas because the new home would close before Christmas. But, that didn’t happen. There was a month or so of real uncertainty. At that time, the economy made it very difficult to find money and I also had invested quite a bit up front. I lived in my motor home until I was finally able to move into my house on Jan. 31,” Wilken said.
“The fact that I am in my house has a great deal to do with Mary. She was very instrumental and, by the way, very congenial throughout that difficult time. It was great to work with her,” Wilkins said.

He has been living in his home for nine months and Wilkins said he’s happy with his home.
Wilkins moved into Model 2931, named after the square footage, a one-story design with four bedrooms, three baths and three-car garage.
“It’s just what I wanted,” he said. “The gracious space in the backyard was a real selling point and I’ve loved having it.
“They’ve selected good materials. If you take a look, you’ll see they didn’t cut corners. When I’m not here, I keep the temperature at 86 degrees and at 82 degrees when I’m home. The house is never too hot or too cold. My power bills average $125 to $135 per month. That’s amazing”
According to Wilkins, he is pleased with the location. “I am 12 minutes from work and this is a great location for easily getting to anyplace in Las Vegas. And, the neighborhood? Well, the neighbors are friendly, they look out for each other and it is a very nice community. I am glad I moved here.”
