Ensign’s national profile

In an interview with the Washington Post, Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., talks about his high profile as a popular spokesman for his party.
Ensign, the chairman of the Republican Policy Committee and thus the No. 4 GOP senator, tells the Post's Chris Cillizza he stands behind his criticism of President Barack Obama's palling around with Venezuela's Hugo Chavez last week. In a widely aired television interview, Ensign had called the two men's interaction "irresponsible."
He also doesn't rule out a possible run for president one day. And Cillizza perceptively notes that Ensign looks a little like the actor James Brolin -- though it's safe to say he's substantially less friendly with Barbra Streisand.
