Film options abound throughout the summer

The Las Vegas Valley is packed with summer movie values from free to a few dollars. 

 Love to plan ahead? Then mark your calendars for a free city of Las Vegas Ward 6 movie in the park event. The PG-rated film “Dolphin Tale” is slated to be shown at 7:30 p.m. July 20 at Centennial Hills Park Amphitheatre, 7101 N. Buffalo Drive. Ward 6 City Councilman Steve Ross is to the host event. Bring blankets or low folding chairs. For more information, call 229-6154.

The city of North Las Vegas Movie Madness free movie in the park nights are scheduled to begin at dusk. Kids activities are slated at 6:30 p.m. Moviegoers are invited to bring blankets, picnic baskets and refreshments. Movies planned at Nature Discovery Park, 2600 Nature Park Drive, include “Kung Fu Panda 2,” June 20; “Puss in Boots,” Aug. 31 and “Zookeeper,” Sept. 21. Movies planned at North Las Vegas City Hall Civic Plaza, 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North, include “The Muppets,” Aug. 10 and “Happy Feet 2,” Oct. 5. Visit cityofnorthlasvegas.com.

Cinemark Theatres plan a Summer Movie Clubhouse offer with 10 films for $5 when purchased in advance or $1 per show if purchased at the box office. This week’s film is “Rio.” Additional films scheduled include “Kung Fu Panda 2”, “Despicable Me,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2,” “Dolphin Tale,” “Puss in Boots,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Yogi Bear” and “Charlotte’s Web.” For a list of participating theaters valleywide, call 800-326-3264 or visit cinemark.com/summer-movie-clubhouse-2012.

The Family Lunchtime Movie Matinee series at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle, plans a free screening of “Finding Nemo” for noon today. “Gnomeo & Juliet” is planned for noon June 27. Bring snacks or a picnic lunch. Call 507-3863.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offers more ongoing free film screenings for children and adults at many of its area branches. For a schedule of events, visit lvccld.org. 

Regal Village Square Stadium 18, 9400 W. Sahara Ave., plans to show a selection of G- and PG-rated movies at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays this summer for kids of all ages. Admission is $1, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Will Rogers Institute. The lineup is as follows: June 26 and 27, “Journey 2” and “Kit Kettredge: An American Girl”; July 3 and 4, “Dolphin Tale” and “Happy Feet Two”; July 10 and 11, “Legend of the Guardians” and “Yogi Bear”; July 17 and 18, “Cats & Dogs: Revenge” and “Hugo”; July 14 and 25, “The Adventures of Tin Tin” and “Puss in Boots”; July 31 and Aug. 1, “Kung Fu Panda 2” and “Rango”; Aug. 7 and 8, “Rio” and “Spy Kids: All the Time”;  Aug. 14 and 15, “Chimpanzee” and “Hoodwinked Too”; Aug. 21 and 22, “Arthur Christmas” and “The Smurfs.” Call 838-0490.

Dive-In Movies are planned for 8:30 p.m. Saturdays at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd. Family-friendly film screenings are free and open to the public and are scheduled to include 2010’s “The Karate Kid” Saturday and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” June 30. Candy and other theater snacks will be available for purchase. Call 869-7807.

Rave Cinemas at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans to host free movies during its Family Film Festival at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday through Aug. 23. “Cats & Dogz” is slated to be the first movie, screening June 26 and 27. Call 362-7283 or visit ravecinemas.com.

The Walnut free summer monthly movie series is set to kick off with “The Lorax” at 6 p.m. Friday at the Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Road. The movie is set to start at dusk. Call 455-8402.

Free, family-friendly movies are scheduled to be shown at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in the grass along Main Street at The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive. “The Neverending Story” is set for Friday, and “Annie” is scheduled for Saturday. Visit shopthedistrictgvr.com.
