The “bad boy” of General Motors Corp. has arrived at Findlay Chevrolet and dealership Fixed Operations Manager Ralph Cody was one of the first lucky owners of the beast known as the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS.
Cody, a 13-year employee of Findlay Automotive Group, took the keys for his new car in mid-May and, considering the mileage he has recorded on the 6.2 liter, 426 horsepower power plant, it’s easy to see he was an instant fan of the car. With a six-speed manual transmission, the Camaro is a dream to drive.
“I have been to Utah, Colorado, California, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona,” said Cody, a native of southeastern Colorado. “I took a week’s vacation about a week after I got my Camaro and went to visit my mom, sister and friends.”
To say that Cody felt comfortable driving the new Camaro is an obvious understatement.
“The car is very comfortable and it handles great,” said Cody. “It has plenty of power with excellent fuel mileage. In fact, on the 2,600-mile trip I was on, I averaged 23 miles to the gallon and that’s really amazing.”
Cody said the Camaro outperforms any other car he has had.
“It has exceeded any of my expectations,” Cody said. “The car has the classic look of my ’69 Camaro, while also having all the comforts. My wife got pulled over driving it a few days ago simply because they wanted to see the car.”
Cody’s wife, Sherry, drives the Camaro most of the time.
“She loves the car,” Cody said. “This car is twice the car that she has ever driven before.”
Cody said Findlay Chevrolet has sold virtually every one of the new Camaros it has received in the past month.
“It’s a great car and I can’t say enough about it,” Cody added.
The vehicle is also being showcased in the second “Transformers” movie which opened in theaters earlier this week.
Even with a downturn in the economy, Findlay Chevrolet has continued to be among the leaders in Nevada in sales for General Motors dealerships.
“Last year, we were No. 1 in sales and with GM closing so many stores, our sales remain strong,” said Cody. “In fact, GM renewed our dealer agreement, so that shows how strong we are.”
Spearheaded by General Manager Justin Findlay, the dealership has been the focal point of several recent news broadcasts. Findlay said the dealership has and will be keeping a V-6 Camaro that can be test driven at any time.
“The arrival of the new Camaro has been a huge boost for us,” Findlay said. “Even during tough times, people need an escape and the Camaro offers just that.”
The 2010 Camaro comes standard with a 304 horsepower V-6 and an available 426 horsepower V-8 along with an assortment of options. It is priced from the mid-$20,000s to the high-$30,000s.
