The Mountain’s Edge Master Homeowners Association and residents will hold a clothing and toy drive for Goodwill of Southern Nevada today. The community will also hold the annual Family, Fur &Fun Festival Oct. 19 at the Exploration Park.
Mountain’s Edge Master HOA coordinates two drives a year to benefit the nonprofit Goodwill organization, which provides education, employment and training for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. The Goodwill donation truck will be in the community’s Exploration Park parking lot from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The 80-acre park is at 9275 S. Buffalo Drive, just south of the Buffalo and Blue Diamond Road intersection past the Mountain’s Edge entrance.
Mountain’s Edge is also a major sponsor of the Family, Fur &Fun Festival, a fundraiser for local nonprofit animal rescue programs.
The festival, now in its seventh year, will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, and well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome. Refreshments will be available and activities will include dachshund races and dog agility demonstrations. There will also be cat and dog adoption areas, free nail trimming, and information about pet safety during Halloween, keeping pets healthy and slim, making pets part of the family, and including pets in planning should a home fire or flood occur.
New this year, a Halloween costume contest for pets of all kinds will begin at 1:30 p.m. Categories include: Best in Show, Best Family (can include pet owners and/or multiple pets), Funniest Costume and Cutest Costume. The entry fee is $3 per category. Registration will be at the festival. The contest is being organized by Las Vegas Hot Diggity Dachshund Club &Rescue.
Arica of Pet’ographique will offer special $25 pricing for pet portraits, and Good Canine Citizen testing will be offered for $5. Proceeds from these sales, the Halloween contest and raffle prizes will benefit local rescue programs.

Mountain’s Edge is also a major sponsor of several other fundraisers. The annual Candlelighters 5K and One Mile Race for our Kids with Chet Buchanan was held this summer. The event raises thousands of dollars for children with cancer and their families through the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada.
In 2014, Mountain’s Edge will become the new host for the annual Take Steps Las Vegas Walk. The event, slated for May 31, will benefit the local chapter of the Crohn’s &Colitis Foundation of America. The nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization is dedicated to finding cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The walk raises money to help people with inflammatory bowel diseases live pain-free.
The 3,500-acre Mountain’s Edge master plan has hundreds of acres of land devoted to open spaces, parks, trail systems and winding paseos. These features are seamlessly integrated with the community, connecting residents and neighborhoods to recreation areas. The community is accessible to key employment centers, transportation arterials and Strip offerings.
The community’s homebuilders feature dozens of floor plans. Featured builders include: DR Horton, Harmony Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Pulte Homes, Richmond American Homes, Ryland Homes and William Lyon Homes.
