EARLY LITERACY SESSIONS PLANNED AT RECREATION CENTER
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension plans a six-week interactive literacy class from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 9 through Oct. 14 and from Oct. 28 to Dec. 2 at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.
The program is planned to train parents how to play a vital role in the early literacy development of their children.

TEACHER STARTS CROWDFUNDING PROJECT FOR SCIENCE PROJECT
Pinecrest Academy, 1360 S. Boulder Highway, plans to teach its first-graders how to hatch and raise trout as a hands-on science project.
The project requires about $800 to purchase the tank, pumps, thermometer, filter and other items. Teacher Ashlee Mickelberry has set up a crowdfunding project through donorschoose.org to seek donations.

WATER PARK OFFERS 2015 SEASON PASSES

POLICE DEPARTMENT CLOSES DESK SERVICES AT WEST AND NORTH STATIONS
The Henderson Police Department closed desk services at the West Police Station and North Police Station on Aug. 18. To file a police report, register a firearm or speak with a police officer, residents should visit the East Police Station at 223 Lead St., which is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Reports may also be filed online for crimes such as minor theft, vandalism, lost property and accidents on private property.
