CITY OF HENDERSON PLANS MEETINGS

The city of Henderson plans its next Citizens’ Advisory Committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10, the Planning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 and city council meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 at Henderson City Hall, 240 S. Water St.

HENDERSON SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR NAMED PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

Treem Elementary School principal Lee Esplin was awarded 2014 Principal of the Year by the Nevada Association of School Administrators for his leadership in education.

Esplin is set to be recognized in November at the association’s fall conference, along with principal Scarlett Perryman of Garside Junior High School and former principal David Wilson of Chaparral High School, who also received the award.

LIBRARY TO BRIEFLY CLOSE FOR RENOVATIONS

The Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, is set to be closed Sept. 25-27 for recarpeting.

HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER AWARDED FELLOWSHIP

Green Valley High School teacher Jolie Glaser was selected by the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation as a member of its 2014 cohort of Teaching Fellows.

The program offers stipends, funds for professional development, grants for teaching materials, opportunities for leadership development and mentoring for early-career STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) teachers through a five-year fellowship.

CITY TO HOST DOGGIE PADDLE & PLAY DAY

The city of Henderson plans Doggie Paddle & Play Day from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex, 599 Greenway Road. Dogs 40 pounds or less are set to swim from 8 and 9:15 a.m.; dogs 41 to 79 pounds are set to swim from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; and dogs 80 pounds or heavier are set to swim from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Admission is $10 per dog in advance or $15 per dog at the door.
