plans OPEN houses

Brain Balance of Henderson, 11 S. Stephanie St., is planning to host open house events on the third Wednesday of every month. Families and educators concerned about helping children with disorders such as dyslexia or autism are invited to attend.

In honor of National ADHD Awareness Month, this month’s focus is expected to be on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The first event is scheduled from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Grand opening set to celebrate
newest phase of Heritage Park

The city of Henderson is planning a grand opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday for Heritage Park, 350 S. Racetrack Road.

The new phase includes 13 multipurpose fields, two 90-foot baseball fields, a shaded picnic area, outdoor classrooms, children’s play area, splash pads and a doghouse-themed rest room.

FREE CLASSES at Acacia Park

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners program, 4600 Horse Drive in Las Vegas, is offering a series of free classes at Acacia Park, 50 Casa del Fuego, in conjunction with the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

Classes will be taught by Master Gardener instructors and start at 9 a.m. The lineup includes:

n Saturday: Information on fruit trees

n Sept. 29: Growing an using herbs

n Oct. 13: Safe and sound insect control

Temple to host Candidate’s Night

Midbar Kodesh Temple, 1940 Paseo Verde Parkway, is planning to host a Candidate’s Night at 6:30 p.m. Sunday .

“Face To Face” political pundit Jon Ralston is scheduled to be the guest moderator for the question-and-answer session for candidates running for Senate, Congress, state Senate and Assembly, County Commission and school board in the Henderson area. Guests also will be able to meet the candidates.

business workshop set for Sept. 27

The Roadmap to Success workshop series has kicked off its 2012-13 season.

The next workshop, “Are Leaders Born or Developed,” is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Henderson Business Resource Center, 112 S. Water St. Seminars are free for Henderson Chamber of Commerce members and $25 for nonmembers.

Henderson accepting registration
For senior table tennis tournament

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department plans to host its seventh annual Senior Warm-up Open Table Tennis Tournament from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3-4 at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Participation is open to players 45 or older.

Entry is $15 per player, per event. Entry packets and online registration are available at cityofhenderson.com/parks (activity code 624106-48 for singles, 624106-49 for doubles and 624106-50 for mixed doubles) or in person by Oct. 1 at the Valley View Recreation Center. Entries may be accepted after Oct. 1 pending space availability. Registration will not be accepted at the event.

Neighborhood MEETING for Oct. 1

Henderson City Councilman John Marz is slated to host his first Neighborhood Connections meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

The Justin Timberlake Shiners Hospitals for Children Open announced a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

The partnership kicked off with a golf clinic with the First Tee of Southern Nevada at Lied Memorial Boys & Girls Club, 2850 S. Lindell Road.

More than 200 members from the Boys & Girls Clubs are expected to participate in the NV Energy Youth Clinic with the First Tee of Southern Nevada at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Circle Drive.
