SUNSET GARDEN CLUB PLANS MASTER GARDENER PANEL

The Sunset Garden Club is scheduled to meet at noon April 8 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. The free program is slated to be called “Lilies — Beyond Easter ” and presented by a Master Gardener panel.

LEADERSHIP HENDERSON TO HOST ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

The Henderson Chamber Foundation and Leadership Henderson are planning to host the fourth annual Biddin’ for Bottles fundraiser at 6 p.m. March 29 at Grape Expectations, 7360 Eastgate Road.

Guests set to have an opportunity to bid on wine bottles and win silent auction gift baskets. Last year, the event raised more than $10,000.

Proceeds are planned to benefit Living Grace Home, a nonprofit that provides a safe haven for pregnant teens.

PERFORMERS SOUGHT FOR UPCOMING CONCERT

Auditions for the upcoming Rising Stars Concert and Festival are scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. March 29 in the food court at Galleria at Sunset, 1300 W. Sunset Road.

Singers, dancers and musicians from ages 8 to 21 are sought.

The show is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. April 26. The festival is slated to begin at 11 a.m. with bounce houses, face painters and prize raffles.

EXPERTS TO LEAD FREE CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners in cooperation with the city of Henderson plan to offer free classes at Acacia Park’s Acacia Demonstration Garden, 50 Casa Del Fuego St., throughout April. Classes are set to be taught by Master Gardener instructors and begin at 9 a.m.

Classes scheduled include:

On April 5, Master Gardener Denise McConnell is set to present Landscape Design with Native Plants in Mind.

On April 12, Trees, Trees and More Trees is set to be presented by Master Gardener Jeneane Young.

Join Master Gardener Linda McDonald on April 19 for Choosing Plants (Vegetable, Fruit Trees, Herbs).

On April 26, Let it Rot, Composting 101 is set to be presented by Master Gardener Pam Bridges.

GROUP TO PUT ON CANDIDATES FORUM

The Southern Hills Republican Women are scheduled to host a candidates forum at their luncheon at 11 a.m. March 25 at Buckman’s Grill, 2600 Hampton Road.

The event is to include 15 candidates running in the upcoming elections.

HENDERSON ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR TEEN TRAINING PROGRAM

The city of Henderson is accepting applications for its Teen-N-Training junior leader program.

The program provides hands-on learning experiences, training teens to become future recreation leaders.

Participation is open to those 14 or 15 years old. The program fee is $110.

Applications are due April 18.

VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL, ACADEMY FOR INDIVIDUALIZED STUDY CHANGES NAME

The Clark County School District’s Virtual High School and Academy for Individualized Study recently changed its name to Nevada Learning Academy

@ CCSD.

Also, for the first time, middle school-aged children soon will be able to enroll in the online academy. A full curriculum of junior high school-level courses will be available beginning in the fall.

ENTRIES SOUGHT FOR HERITAGE PARADE

The city of Henderson is seeking entries for its 2014 Henderson Heritage Parade scheduled at 10 a.m. April 26 on Water Street.

The theme is “Let’s Go to the Market,” which celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Henderson Farmers Market.

HENDERSON TO PUT ON EGG DIVE

In honor of Easter, the city of Henderson is expected to host an egg dive at 1 p.m. April 19 at the Whitney Ranch Activity Pool, 1575 Galleria Drive.

Dozens of eggs are expected to be hidden at the bottom of the pool for swimmers to find.

The event costs $5 per person and is open to all ages.

HENDERSON BIRD VIWING PRESERVE EVENT TO HONOR EARTH DAY

The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive, is scheduled to host its annual Birding Celebration from 8 a.m. to noon April 26.

The event is slated to celebrate Earth Day and International Migratory Bird Day.

CHILI COOK-OFF INVITES RESIDENTS OUT

Calllville Bay Resorts and Marina, 100 Callville Bay Road, is scheduled to host its annual chili cook-off at 5 p.m. March 29.

People can enter the contest or attend the tasting.
