WOMEN'S GROUP PLANS BRUNCH

The Southern Hills Republican Women's annual Christmas Brunch is scheduled at 10 a.m. Dec. 4 at Buckman's, 2600 Hampton Road. The brunch costs $17 and includes games, door prizes and a holiday drink. Reservations should be mailed by Friday to Donna Lakers, 1817 Tarrant Drive, Henderson, NV 89052.

HENDERSON SEEKS ENTRIES FOR DECORATING CONTEST

Henderson is accepting entries for its 2012 Holiday Decorating Contest through 5 p.m. Thursday. The program is open to the first 50 entries received.

Members of the Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission are scheduled to judge participants Dec. 10, and winners are to be announced Dec. 14. For more information, visit cityofhenderson.com/parks.

BLUE STAR MOTHERS OF HENDERSON TO STUFF STOCKINGS FOR TROOPS

The Blue Star Mothers of Henderson and Boulder City, along with residents and members of the Henderson City Council, are scheduled to assemble holiday stockings for troops deployed overseas from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Wednesday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

The group has a goal to stuff 1,500 holiday stockings with various items.

RECREATION CENTER HOSTS DROP-OFF STATION WHILE PARENTS SHOP

Giving parents time to finish last- minute shopping, the city of Henderson plans to offer a child drop-off station called Santa's Workshop from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

Children are expected to have games, holiday cartoons and be able to make a take-home present. The event is open to children ages 6 to 12 and is $15. Registration is required. For details, visit cityofhenderson.com/parks.

TOY DRIVE SCHEDULED AT HENDERSON POST OFFICES

Henderson post offices are expected to have a toy drive to benefit Toys for Tots from now until Dec. 18.

Gifts should be new and unwrapped.

From 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., people can drop the toys off at four Henderson post office locations: 404 Boulder Highway, 1575 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, 3055 St. Rose Parkway and 2722 N. Green Valley Parkway.

STUDENTS BUILD GINGERBREAD HOUSES FOR M RESORT CONTEST

The M Resort, 12300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, invited several local schools to compete in its second annual Gingerbread House Contest, scheduled to be judged from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday. The first-place school will be awarded $1,500 and 10 tickets to the M Resort's "Elvis Holiday and Tribute Show." Second and third place and seven honorable mentions also will receive prizes.

The winning gingerbread houses will be on display through Dec. 21.

NEVADA STATE BANK COLLECTING CLOTHES

Nevada State Bank, 3480 W. Sahara Ave. is collecting clothes through Dec. 17 for the Professional Dress Closet at Foothill High School, 800 College Drive. The closet provides students with clothing for job interviews. Recommended donations include men's and women's suits, jackets, shirts, blouses, dress pants, skirts, ties, shoes and business accessories.

Nevada State Bank has partnered with Foothill for 11 years on various programs.

HENDERSON OFFERS PHOTO CONTEST

The city of Henderson has announced its fourth annual "What Makes Henderson Great" photo contest. Submissions are due by Dec. 21.

Examples of photos include city of Henderson landscapes, landmarks, friends, animals, abstracts, sports and portraits. Winners are expected to have their photos featured in City Hall, on the city's website and Facebook and at the 2013 State of the City address.

FREE FLU SHOTS TO BE AVAILABLE IN HENDERSON

The Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition and its partners plan to host multiple no-cost flu immunization and health clinics until Dec. 8 in the Las Vegas Valley.

The next Henderson clinic is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena Campus, MacDonald Conference Center, 3001 St. Rose Parkway.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that everyone 6 months or older should receive the flu vaccine each year. It's especially important the following get the shot because they are at high risk for serious flu-related complications or because they live with or care for people who have a greater risk for flu-related complications:

Pregnant women.

Children older than 6 months and younger than 5.

People 50 or older.

People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions.

People who live or work in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

Health care workers.

Caregivers of children younger than 6 months (these children are too young to be vaccinated).

The clinics will provide flu shots on a first-come, first-served basis. Children older than 6 months, adolescents and adults are eligible for the inoculations.

REGISTRATION UNDER WAY FOR JUNIOR BASKETBALL WINTER LEAGUE

The Henderson National Junior Basketball Winter Divisional League is accepting early registration for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through eight. The individual registration fee is $150 and includes a uniform, pictures and awards. Games are set to start in early December.

Ten games are scheduled, including playoffs. Games are scheduled at Liberty High School, 3700 Liberty Heights Ave.; Miller Middle School, 2400 Cozy Hill Circle; and Schofield Middle School, 8625 Spencer St.

KOKO FITCLUB ANNOUNCES CLOTHING DRIVE

KoKo FitClub in Henderson has scheduled a clothing drive from Dec. 1 to Jan. 5. People can drop off donations at the three Henderson locations, 55 S. Valle Verde Drive, 55 E. Horizon Ridge Parkway and 2970 St. Rose Parkway.

Donations are expected to go to Safe Nest, a domestic violence shelter.

COUNCIL MEETINGS AVAILABLE ONLINE

The city of Henderson has begun live streaming of City Council meetings.

Meetings are at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month. Before watching, residents can also view the council agenda and supporting documents. The stream is available at cityofhenderson.com.

MACY'S IS ACCEPTING LETTERS TO SANTA, WILL DONATE TO MAKE-A-WISH

Residents throughout the Las Vegas Valley can write a letter to Santa Claus and drop it off to the Santa letterbox at any valley Macy's store to benefit Make-A-Wish of Southern Nevada. For each stamped letter received, Macy's will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million. Letters can be delivered through Dec. 24.

SOUTH POINT PLANS TO HOST MOTORCYCLE EVENT JAN. 11 AND 12

The 22nd annual West Coast Flat Track Series is expected to open Jan. 11 and 12 at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event is to feature motorcycle racing, showcasing more than 150 riders nationwide.

Tickets start at $20.
