COUNCIL MEETINGS AVAILABLE ONLINE

The city of Henderson has begun live streaming of City Council meetings.

Meetings are at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month. Before watching, residents can also view the council agenda and supporting documents. The stream is available at cityofhenderson.com.

CLASS to train residents
ON EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

The city of Henderson Office of Emergency Management is scheduled to host a training class for the Community Emergency Response Team from 6 to 9 p.m. starting in September at the Henderson Training Center, 401 Parkson Road.

Participants are expected to learn how to be better prepared in emergency situations. Classes are free and will be offered on a Monday or a Wednesday for six weeks. Classes are set to begin Sept. 10 and 12.

REGISTRATION FOR YOUTH SOCCER IS OPEN

Online and mail-in registration for Henderson's youth soccer league is open until Aug. 15. Enrollment is $40 per player and open to players ages 5 to 18.

Practices begin Sept. 3, and the season begins Sept. 29.

People can drop off registration at any city of Henderson recreation center between Monday and Aug. 15.

Henderson offering early registration for before- and after-school programs

Henderson's Parks and Recreation Department is offering early Safekey and Teen Scene registration and is open to students at all Henderson public elementary and middle schools. Safekey and Teen Scene are before- and after-school programs that offer supervised recreational opportunities for kids.

Early registration is available from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15-17 and Aug. 22-24 and from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Aug. 18 at the following locations: Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road; Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway; Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.; Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; and Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

Southeast Career and Technical Academy auto students get donation

Students in the automotive program at Southeast Career and Technical Academy, 5710 Mountain Vista St., received new tools upon graduation. JS Products, 5440 S. Procyon Ave., donated the tools and made donations to SECTA's and Western High School's automotive programs.

FOUNDATION aims to RAISE
awareness of RARE DISEASES

The Little Miss Hannah Foundation's Rainbow to the Sky event is scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive.

The event is a fundraiser and awareness campaign for the foundation, which offers assistance to families of children with life-limiting diseases.

Participants can expect music, games, balloon animals and an auction.

The foundation is scheduled to have a balloon release at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. to honor people who have died from rare diseases.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
to be TAUGHT AT Paseo Verde LIBRARY

An introduction to computers class is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 1 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. Participants are expected to learn basic computer components, including MS Windows 7. The free event is open to the public.

The class is limited to 12 people and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations for Chamber of Commerce event are due by monday

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce plans to host its annual State of the Chamber Address at noon Aug. 3 in the Milan Grand Ballroom at the M Resort, 12300 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Scott Muelrath, executive director and CEO of the chamber, is slated to give the address.

All chamber members and the public are invited to attend. Cost is $45 per person or $320 for a table of eight. RSVPs are due by Monday and can be made by calling 565-8951 or by emailing sesau@hendersonchamber.com.

GARDEN CLUB plans SEMINAR
on growing a garden in Nevada

The Garden Club is slated to offer a seminar on how to grow a garden in Nevada at 10 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The club plans to discuss fall blooming plants. Registration is required.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT SCHEDULED
FOR AUGUST in downtown Henderson

National Night Out is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St.

The event features crime-prevention information, demonstrations from Henderson police units, entertainment and refreshments. The free event is open to the public.

City is accepting entries
for trails Day photo contest

The city of Henderson is accepting entries for its annual Trails Day Photo Contest. Entries will be accepted until 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 S. Racetrack Road. There is no cost to participate, and the contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages.

The contest includes 10 categories and themes. Winning photographs will be showcased at the Southern Nevada National Trails Day Celebration on Oct. 6 at Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Parkway.

ARTISTS invited to submit hubcap art
for SUPERRUN Classic Car Show

Henderson is seeking artists to participate in the Hubcap Art Gallery at the SuperRun Classic Car Show, scheduled from Sept. 20-23 at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

Artists are invited to transform hubcaps into masterpieces using mediums such as acrylic paints, photography, oil paints, fabric and welding. Hubcaps are expected to be displayed during SuperRun.

Any donated hubcaps are expected to be sold at a silent auction to benefit City Lights Youth Scholarship Fund.

Cost is $5 per hubcap. The deadline to enter is Aug. 15.

ENTRIES SOUGHT FOR SUPERRUN CAR SHOW

Henderson is seeking entries for the 2012 SuperRun Classic Car Show scheduled for Sept. 20-23 in the Water Street District. It is the show's 13th anniversary.

Registration before Sept. 10 is $50, with space limited to the first 1,000 entries.
