Superpawn opens new location

SuperPawn celebrated the re-opening of its new location, 1100 W. Sunset Road, on Nov. 8.

The company invested more than $300,000 to upgrade the store.

The ribbon-cutting event included appearances by Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen and First Tee of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit that teaches golf and life skills to at-risk youths.

During the event, SuperPawn executives presented First Tee of Southern Nevada with a donation of $2,500 to further efforts to share golf education.

Winterfest gingerbread house competition seeks applicants

Henderson is seeking entries for the WinterFest Gingerbread House Competition during the annual WinterFest, 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 and noon to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St.

Applicants have until Dec. 5 to register.

In order to be considered, all entries must be 90 percent edible, made of gingerbread, frosting and candy and reflect the theme, “An Old-Fashioned Christmas Delight.”

Firefighters donate to S.A.F.E. House

The Henderson Firefighters Benevolent Association donated $500 to S.A.F.E. House as a sponsor of its fifth annual “Run For Shelter.”

The proceeds raised from the Nov. 2 event went to benefit the organization, which helps survivors of domestic violence.

Holiday contest seeks entries

Henderson’s 2013 annual Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest is slated to run until Dec. 9.

This year’s theme is “holiday traditions in the desert.”

Luncheon set for Nov. 19

Golf Galaxy opens store in henderson

Golf Galaxy opened its second store in Nevada Nov. 1 at 561 N. Stephanie St.

The Henderson store is set to serve up a variety of golf equipment, accessories, apparel and clubs.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Sunday.

Pool to host dive in movie

People of all ages are invited to kick back in the pool and enjoy a film from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center Aquatic Complex, 1575 Galleria Drive. Admission is $1 to $2.

Aquatic complex to sponsor underwater candy cane hunt

Families are invited to enjoy treats, a bounce house and an underwater candy cane hunt from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Heritage Park Aquatic Complex, 310 Racetrack Road. Admission is $5 or free to those who bring a new unwrapped toy to benefit the city of Henderson community toy drive.

Black Mountain offers new indoor boot camp, Insane training classes

A new indoor boot camp class is set to be offered for participants 11 or older from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. Classes for participants 16 or older are offered from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays. Drop in rates are $8 per session or athletes can pay $30 for a six-session series.

The Black Mountain Recreation Center also plans to offer a new Insane Training high-intensity workout class. The next sessions are set to run from 6 to 7 a.m. or from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Dec. 10 through Jan. 2. The session fee for two classes a week is $35.

Healthy Henderson memberships available at any rec center

Healthy Henderson is the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department’s innovative fitness, health and wellness program that encourages people to get fit and stay healthy.

Healthy Henderson memberships are sold at any of the city’s six recreation centers and the Heritage Park Senior Facility.

Memberships range from $15 to $35 a month or $135 to $285 a year. Discounts are available for seniors, veterans and children.

Henderson 250 set for Dec. 5-8
