The GFW Green Valley Woman’s Club is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Findlay Toyota, 7733 Eastgate Road.

GARDEN CLUB TO HOLD SEMINAR

The Sunset Garden Club is scheduled to meet at noon Oct. 8 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.

The free program, called The Right Plant for the Right Place, is expected to be presented by Paul Noe, a horticulturist and horticulture adviser with the Star Nursery staff.

HENDERSON OFFERS MOBILE APP FOR ANDROID

The city of Henderson is offering a chance for residents to connect with City Hall 24/7 with the addition of its Contact Henderson mobile application for Android users.

Contact Henderson was implemented in 2008 as a way for people to report or comment on various issues within the city. Contact Henderson for iPhones was added in 2011.

Customers can check the status of their inquiry through the system.

Since its creation, nearly 180,000 cases have been submitted through the system.

COUNCILWOMAN NAMED PUBLIC OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR

Henderson City Councilwoman Debra March was recently named Nevada Public Official of the Year at the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities and the Nevada Association of Counties.

March, who serves Ward II, was recognized for her achievements on the council and her leadership with the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities.

THE CITY SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

The city of Henderson is accepting applications for its loan programs that help residents with landscape improvements, including replacing grass with water-efficient landscaping.

The Homeownership Enrichment Landscape Program is designed to help residents remove turf and replace it with landscape that is more drought-tolerant. The program also helps with other improvements to the yard. Homeowners can apply for a loan up to $5,000, which does not need to be paid back until the home is sold or there is a change in ownership.

The city also offers the Turf Removal Program, which also is up to $5,000 at 3 percent interest and amortized over a seven-year period. The loan allows residents to replace grass with desert landscape.
