Home builders group announce new board

The Southern Nevada Home Builders Association conducted its 2009 Installation of Officers and Directors/2008 President's Appreciation Awards Luncheon Dec. 3 at the Four Seasons Resort Ballroom. The new board takes office Jan. 1.

SNHBA installed the 2009 officers: President Bill Hoover, Pageantry Communities; 1st Vice President Nat Hodgson, Pulte Homes; and newly appointed 2nd Vice President Frank Wyatt of Pinnacle Homes.

Diana Bossard of B2 Development Services continues as the association's treasurer; and Tony Stipanov of Southwest Gas Corp., continues as secretary in 2009.

SNHBA's outgoing 2008 President Michael "Mick" Galatio presented the association's annual awards: Builder Member of the Year, Associate Member of the Year, the President's Special Award and the Spike (Membership) Awards.

Committee chairpersons, volunteers and staff were lauded for their work during the year. Galatio also passed the gavel of the presidency to Hoover.

The Builder Member of the Year Award went to Rick Baron of Astoria Homes, who Galatio lauded for the time and effort Baron has put in to assist the association and industry on important matters, such as community development, utilities and off sites, grading, subdivision regulation, noting that Baron has been a member only five years.

This year, the Associate Member of the Year Award went to Ryan Seger of Whirlpool Corp., for his outstanding efforts to recruit new members and retain existing members during the economic downturn. Seger is chairperson of the association's Membership Committee.

Galatio presented the President's Special Award to four deserving recipients, "who have exhibited outstanding service in their respective areas" -- Outgoing Clark County Commissioners Bruce Woodbury and Chip Maxfield; Las Vegas Review-Journal executive Claire DeJesus and home builder Randy Schaefer of R/S Development as an outgoing member and past chairman of the Nevada State Contractors Board.

Galatio thanked the sponsors for making the event possible: BuilderInventoryLV.com, HomesOnTV.com, Cox Communications, the Kelly Design Group, Lubbers Law Group and Thyssenkrupp Access.

Nearly 200 SNHBA members and guests attended the event.

Galatio announced that board member Dennis Smith of Home Builders Research Inc. has become a senior director, and therefore no longer needs to run for re-election, because he has served seven consecutive years on the board.
