Man chased by police enters home, steals pickup, faints

PEORIA, Ariz. — A man on the run is in police custody after he jumped into backyards, entered two homes and stole a pickup truck during a long chase.

The man’s brother told police Saturday morning his sibling, Donald Rauh, 26, had threatened the family and was driving a stolen vehicle.

Rauh crossed into Glendale and officers found him in the desert at Seventh Street and Pinnacle Peak. Rauh fled in the vehicle he was driving and Phoenix Police directed their helicopter to follow him.

In the area of 111th Avenue and Glenrosa, Rauh fled on foot. Police said he jumped through backyards and got into a home. Then, he stole a pickup truck at a second home he entered. Officers aboard the Phoenix Police helicopter continued their pursuit.

Rauh ran into the back of an SUV near Alameda and Dysart in Avondale, performed a U-turn and hit a pole, police said.

The suspect ditched the vehicle, and ran through a residential area, trying to get into homes, officers said.

Rauh managed to get into a home and police quickly set up a perimeter. As he was being arrested, Rauh passed out. He was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition.

Peoria Police took him into custody.

Rauh, who has an extensive criminal history, was booked into jail on two counts of a stolen vehicle, making domestic violence threats and multiple counts of aggravated assault, burglary and armed robbery. He was also charged with one count of hit-and-run.
