Equestrian enthusiasts to mingle
at July 15 mixer at North Forty

A mixer for local horse owners is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. July 15 at North Forty BBQ Saloon & Dancehall , 5990 Centennial Center Blvd.

The free event is a chance for locals to meet and mingle with other horse owners and equestrian enthusiasts. Local equestrian clubs are welcome to set up tables or displays to attract new members.

Those who attend may register at the door and receive two free drink tickets. There will be door prizes.

Las Vegas Councilman Steve Ross of Ward 6 is scheduled to attend a homeowners association meeting planned for 6 p.m. July 13 at the Centennial Hills Community Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. Log Cabin Estates is to host the event, which is open to the public.

ON BUS SYSTEM BY SATURDAY

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is considering changes to its bus system, which are set to be implemented in September.

The commission is taking input until Saturday. Visit rtcsnv.com for a list of meeting dates, places and times.

The evaluation may result in various types of changes, such as frequency reduction, selected trip eliminations, changes to hours of operation, shortening of routes, elimination of routes with low ridership and route redesigns.

The paratransit service also will be adjusted and will maintain the mandated three-quarter mile border on each side of the fixed route boundary.

foster homes for animals

Foreclosed Upon Pets Inc. is in urgent need of foster families to house animals until forever homes are found.

The all-volunteer group takes in pets left behind in the rocky home mortgage situation. It is running at capacity and can accept no more animals without more foster parents.

Night at the 51s to benefit
Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America plans to host a special Night at the 51s at 7 p.m. Friday.

Tickets to the Triple-A baseball game at Cashman Field are $10 each, and a portion of each ticket sold will benefit the foundation and its mission to find a cure for the 1.4 million Americans suffering from digestive diseases.

Tickets, which must be reserved in advance through the foundation, also include a free Las Vegas 51s baseball cap and entry into the 51s’ Beach Towel Night. The first 500 guests to the stadium will get a free beach towel.

Foundation member Quinn Klappenback is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. A local teacher living with Crohn’s disease, Klappenback is an active advocate and fundraiser for the group.

Also in attendance at the event will be several of the participants from the foundation’s Take Steps and Team Challenge programs and the Las Vegas leadership committee and staff members.

All tickets must be reserved and will be available to pick up on game night.

Get ideal hair and benefit charity

Style DQ, 5540 S. Fort Apache Road, Suite 120, began a hair fundraiser June 10 for the Shade Tree shelter, 1 W. Owens Ave.

The salon plans to raise $100,000 through $10 haircuts of any style. It is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 566-4247.

THE PLAZA SCHEDULED TO FILL 800 POSITIONS DURING TWO-WEEK JOB FAIR

A two-week job fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday at the Las Vegas Club, 18 E. Fremont St., in the banquet rooms on the third floor of the North Tower.

The hotel plans to fill 800 positions that range from entry-level to management positions in gaming, hotel, casino, food, beverage and marketing.

Applicants should go to plazahotelcasino.com and click “careers” to submit a job application online. Applications also will be available and accepted at the job fair.

The Plaza began an extensive renovation project last year that includes new guest rooms and suites, a remodeled casino floor and lobby and new restaurants and entertainment options.

The Plaza is slated to reopen by Sept. 1.

Nevada Camera Club SEMINAR
aims to TEACH PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS

Henderson Libraries is scheduled to host a class on photography from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. July 14 at the Malcolm Library, 2960 Sunridge Heights Parkway.

The two-hour class, presented by the Nevada Camera Club, is free and open to the public.

Participants can get tips on basic photography. Registration is required and ends July 12.
