The Las Vegas 5K and the Cease to be Obese Walk for Charity to benefit the Jump for Joy Foundation, through the campus of UNLV is planned for April 23.

The 5K events are set for 8 a.m., and the walk portion is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $25 to walk, $30 for the 5K general race and $35 for the competitive race, which has a $5,000 cash prize for the winner.

The Jump for Joy Foundation is a nonprofit group aiming to reverse and prevent childhood obesity.

Healthcare Decisions Day planned on Saturday at Sunrise Hospital

Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Nathan Adelson Hospice are teaming to host Healthcare Decisions Day, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Sunrise Hospital auditorium, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway.

The free event will include information about end-of-life preparation, organ donation and community services for older adults.

Appetizers will be provided to all participants, and community resource organizations will offer additional information.

AFAN to host 21st AIDS Walk Las Vegas

Aid for AIDS of Nevada plans its 21st annual AIDS Walk Las Vegas at 8 a.m. Sunday at the World Market Center, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Early sign-ins are set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at AFAN’s headquarters, 701 Shadow Lane, Suite 130. Penn & Teller are set to serve as grand marshals for the 10th consecutive year.

Whole Foods Market donates to Las Vegas Rescue Mission

Whole Foods Market recently presented a check for $11,878 to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, 480 W. Bonanza Road.

The funds were the result of Whole Foods’ 5 Percent Day March 23, when 5 percent of total net sales from all Las Vegas-area Whole Foods Markets was donated to the rescue mission.

Additionally, Whole Foods volunteers served an all-natural lunch to 150 rescue mission clients April 2 in the rescue mission’s cafeteria. The meal included grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and green salad.

The rescue mission’s facilities provide housing for 140 singles and eight family units nightly. They also provide nearly 30,000 free meals each month.

Barefoot Sanctuary has opened a yoga, fitness and dance studio inside the Whole Foods Market at 8855 W. Charleston Blvd.

Barefoot Sanctuary also operates a studio inside the Whole Foods Market at Town Square Las Vegas, 6689 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Nevada track & Field team to host fundraiser at south point

The Nevada Track & Field Team is planning a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament to raise money to compete in the Down Under International Games Tri-Nations Meet in Australia. The team plans to compete against other athletes from the United States, Australia and New Zealand in June and July.

The poker tournament is scheduled for Wednesday in the poker room at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Sign-ins start at 5:30 p.m., and tournament play is set for 6:30 p.m. There is a $75 buy-in for $4,000 in chips. Cash prizes will be given for first through fifth places. There also will be free cocktails for all tournament players.
