Jewish Family Service Agency to honor local heroes during annual brunch
The Jewish Family Service Agency plans to host its fourth annual Tzedakah Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 5 at the Four Seasons, 3960 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
“Tzedakah” means charity in Hebrew, and the agency invites the community to attend and honor everyday heroes, local people who dedicate their lives to benefiting the world.
Award recipients include Dr. Florence Jameson, founder of Volunteers in Medicine, for her contributions to health care; Shirley Linzy, registered nurse and director of the Adelson Clinic, for her educational outreach; Jack Solomon, chairman and CEO of the S2 Art Group, for his contributions to arts and culture; and Rachel and Sam Ventura for their extensive philanthropic activity.
Attendance at the Tzedakah Brunch helps support the humanitarian programs and services of the Jewish Family Service Agency.

Day camps available at YMCA
The YMCA of Southern Nevada offers wallet-friendly solutions for families looking for child care and ways to stay active this summer.
The YMCA is taking day camp registrations and selling Sizzlin’ Summer passes, which provide four months of unlimited access to its locations: the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane; the Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive; the Centennial Hills Community Center YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive; and the YMCA’s newest location, the SkyView YMCA in North Las Vegas, 3050 E. Centennial Parkway.
YMCA day camp is for kids ages 5 to 15 and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 13 through Aug. 26. Free care for campers is available from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. and is provided for working parents.
Weekly camp prices range from about $100 to $200, and a daily drop-in rate of $45 is available. No one is turned away because of an inability to pay, YMCA officials said. Financial assistance is available.

smokey bear exhibit to be displayed
at lied discovery children’s museum
The “Smokey Bear & Woodsey Owl: Home Sweet Home” exhibit is scheduled to be on display June 4 through Sept. 25 in the Cultural Gallery at the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
The exhibit was developed by the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service to spread the messages of wildfire prevention and wildlife conservation.
