AUDITIONS PLANNED FOR CSN PRODUCTIONS

The College of Southern Nevada Department of Fine Arts is seeking actors for its three fall productions.

All auditions are set for 7 p.m. in the BackStage Theatre, room 1201, at the Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., and will consist of cold readings from the scripts. A photo and resume are preferred but not required.

Auditions for Dennis Bush’s “Below the Belt” and all-female auditions for Clare Boothe Luce’s “The Women” are planned for Sept. 10 and 11.

“Below the Belt” is to be directed by Jane Walsh and staged one weekend at each CSN campus, Oct. 4-19. “The Women” is to be directed by Rhonda Carlson and staged Nov. 8-17.

CIVIL AIR PATROL TO MEET

The Nellis Senior Squadron of the Nevada Wing Civil Air Patrol meets 7 to 8 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Grand Canyon Room at the North Las Vegas Air Terminal, 2730 Airport Drive. BANQUET TO RAISE FUNDS FOR STUDENTS

Young Life, a Christian youth outreach organization, has scheduled a fundraising banquet for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Bear’s Best golf course, 11111 W. Flamingo Road.

The group has openings for several age groups, including Younglife (high school students), Wyldlife (junior high students), Younglives (teen mothers) and College life (college students). It has formed clubs at schools in Las Vegas and Henderson.

CANCER FOUNDATION TO HOST BONE MARROW DRIVE

The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation seeks bone marrow matches for critically ill children in Southern Nevada. Sign up for the National Bone Marrow Registry at the eighth annual Bone Marrow Drive slated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 at foundation, 6070 S. Eastern Ave.

It involves a swab of cheek cells to determine the donor’s tissue type. No needles or blood draws are involved. This year, as in past years, the foundation will cover the cost for those who join the registry.

Potential donors, between the ages of 18 and 50 who meet the health guidelines (visit marrow.org), will complete a brief health questionnaire and consent form to be listed on the registry.

For those who are unable to join the registry, the foundation will accept monetary donations to cover the cost of the transplants.

HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA LAUNCHES 10TH OF THE MONTH DONOR PROGRAM

HELP of Southern Nevada is launching its $10 on the 10th recurring donor program, which encourages Southern Nevada residents to help make a difference in their community by donating $10 on the 10th of every month.

To sign up, visit helpsonv.org, click “Get Involved” and scroll down to donate, labeling $10 on the 10th in the description. Donors have the option to select the frequency of a recurring donation by using the drop-down box. Sign-ups on behalf of someone else are also available as gifts.

BANK OF AMERICA INITIATIVE PLANNED TO BENEFIT VETERANS SUPPORT GROUPS

Bank of America has announced a fundraising initiative called Express Your Thanks to benefit veterans of the Wounded Warrior Project and Welcome Back Veterans, an initiative of Major League Baseball Charities.

The project’s goal is to raise $1 million for these charities. Running through Veterans Day (Nov. 11), anyone can participate by taking a photo, creating a video or writing a message of support and sharing it on bankofamerica.com/troopthanks. They also can post on Twitter with the hashtag #troopthanks. For every message posted, Bank of America will donate $1 to Wounded Warriors and Welcome Back Veterans.

SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN OPEN OFFERS FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open offers the opportunity for local charities and schools to raise funds for their programs by selling daily ticket vouchers to the 2013 tournament, scheduled for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle.

By selling tickets to the annual PGA tournament through the Tickets for Charity and Tickets for Schools programs, organizations retain 100 percent of the proceeds. Participating organizations can include parent-teacher associations, sports clubs, academic clubs and local nonprofits.

Last year’s program raised more than $30,000 to support more than 30 local nonprofits in addition to assisting more than 25 school systems to defeat budget cuts. Merryhill School’s parent-teacher organization led the participating schools last year in raising $2,700 for their programs. Additionally, the International Public Safety Leadership & Ethics Institute sold more than 300 tickets to the tournament to raise $3,220.

FOUNDATION SEEKS EXCHANGE STUDENT HOST FAMILIES

Face the World Foundation is registering volunteer host families for the fall semester of high school. Host families provide a loving home, meals and a bed while learning firsthand about another culture and establishing friendships that will last a lifetime. MASTER GARDENERS PLAN TOURS OF DEMONSTRATION GARDENS
