ALIANTE LIBRARY DEBUTS FULL S.T.E.A.M. AHEAD

The Aliante Library, 2400 W. Deer Springs Way, is set to debut a new monthly program designed for preschoolers and younger elementary aged students and their parents or caregivers to explore, create and experiment in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. NORTH LAS VEGAS LIBRARY DISTRICT AWARDED $97,600 STATE LIBRARY GRANT

The North Las Vegas Library District has been awarded a $97,600 library services and technology act grant titled “Reinventing the North Las Vegas Library District.” The grant was administered by the Nevada State Library and archives division to form lasting community partnerships with agencies that have similar education and service goals.

The district plans to use detailed census data and community input to tailor programs and services to best meet the needs of patrons at the branch level.

DONATE NEW AND GENTLY USED CHILDREN’S BOOKS

Throughout February, comedian and magician Mac King is partnering with the YMCA of Southern Nevada, The Toy Box and Splash Studios LLC to collect books for elementary school children in local at-risk schools.

Donate three or more new or gently used children’s books at Centennial Hills YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, to receive two tickets to the Mac King Comedy Magic Show and special offers from the host venue.

King is set to deliver the books to kids in at-risk schools March 2-6, during Nevada Reading Week 2015.

NORTH LAS VEGAS LIBRARY DISTRICT RECEIVES GRANT AWARD

The North Las Vegas Library District has received a $28,000 grant award from the NV Energy Foundation to upgrade computers at the City Hall Library that are accessible to the public.

The funds will enable the library to upgrade the current desktop towers, enhance services to patrons and fund future Virtual Desktop Infrastructure reducing operating costs.

CENTENNIAL HILLS HOSPITAL PLANS BABY-SITTING CERTIFICATION CLASS

A baby-sitting certification class is planned from 8 a.m. to noon the second Wednesday of every month at Centennial Hills Hospital, 6900 N. Durango Drive. The four-hour class helps youths ages 11 to 16 gain the knowledge and skills they need to care for infants and children, as well as time to practice these skills in a web-based program.
