Providence to host Sunday ice cream event Sept. 25

Las Vegas families are invited to enjoy ice cream treats and a day of fun in the sun at Sunny 106.5's Ice Cream Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Promenade linear park inside the Providence master-planned community in northwest Las Vegas.

For the second year, and ninth in total, KSNE Sunny 106.5 has teamed with Providence to hold this free event featuring a variety of vendors.

Families will enjoy complimentary ice cream from Unilever and bounce houses, games, face-painting, balloon animals, ice-cream-eating contest, juggling and entertainment by the characters from Amazing Clowns.

Unilever will provide a variety of ice cream treats, including Dove Bars, Breyers and Ben and Jerry's.

Providence homebuilders also will host booths with various activities and information about the community's homes and current incentives.

"Sunny 106.5 is excited to hold Ice Cream Sunday at Providence for the second year in a row," said Tom Chase, program director for Sunny 106.5 FM.

"Sunny 106.5 has hosted this popular Las Vegas event for nine years now, and each time it gets better and better.

"Families can't beat this fun in the sun event complete with entertainment, jump houses, games for the kids and, of course, all the Unilever ice cream kids can handle."

Chase added, "There's also a charitable component with a book drive, making the event an easy way to help children by bringing a book or two."

Attendees are invited to donate new or gently used books to Spread the Word Nevada.

The nonprofit organization promotes literacy. Visit spreadthewordnevada.org to learn more.

This year's Ice Cream Sunday sponsors include Unilever, Las Vegas Party Tents and Rentals, Providence, Providence Master Homeowners Association, Team Ford and Sunny 106.5 FM.

The Promenade linear park features wide, tree-lined boulevards with mature trees, formally planted landscapes, children's play area and shaded seating areas.

The Providence main entrance and information center are located at 7051 N. Hualapai Way (Las Vegas Beltway north and Hualapai). To get to The Promenade, turn left on Elkhorn Road from Hualapai.

The Promenade entrance is at the Elkhorn/Egan Crest Way intersection.

The 1,200-acre community is designed to reflect the traditions of small town America and will have about 7,500 homes upon completion.

Providence homebuilders are offering financial incentives on a new home purchase.

The community offers a variety of floor plans and amenities.

For example, Richmond American Homes is offering to pay special improvement district fees at its Emerson community.

This neighborhood features four floor plans and a community pool and is priced from the low $100,000s.

Providence builders include Beazer Homes, DR Horton, Fairfield Properties L.P., KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Richmond American Homes, R/S Development, Ryland Homes, Warmington Residential Nevada and Woodside Homes.

In other community news, Knickerbocker Park is nearing completion and will open later this year.

It will include a splash pad, tot lots dog park, youth baseball field, jogging path with exercise stations and picnic areas.

The neighborhood park is located at the southeast corner of Shaumber Road and Dorrell Lane.
