Pussy Riot gives Sochi Olympics a message of freedom

As an American, the thing I’ll remember the most about the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi is the hard-to-watch video of members of the dissident punk-rock band Pussy Riot being whipped by the Cossack militia as they tried to make a music video in a public square.

As free people we forget what oppression looks like. Watch that Pussy Riot video and remember the sacrifices of our own patriots who made that happen in America.

Look at yourself and remember that in this day, in this age, it is your responsibility to keep freedom alive for the next generation.

Think about what the Obama Administration (through the IRS) is doing to political opponents. It’s a high-tech version of that very same horse-whipping that went on in Sochi.

Think about what President Bush and President Obama have done to American privacy rights with NSA spying.

Or better yet, view this video in Sochi again and think — “What would I do if this happened in America?”

Russians don’t know what freedom feels like. Americans do. I would hope people would stand up against oppression, unlike the many Russians who just stood by and let these young girls get sprayed with mace and beaten with whips.
