Findlay Chevrolet will host the annual Racing Appreciation Day from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the dealership, which is east of the 215 Beltway and Rainbow Boulevard in the southwestern valley.
The auto racing event will serve as an opportunity to see Ken Black’s National Hot Rod Association Summit Racing team and various forms of machinery from the Las Vegas Corvettes Association.
Black’s drivers Jason Line and Jimmy Alund, a native of Sweden, will power the team’s Summit Racing Camaros during the Summit.com NHRA Nationals, Friday through Sunday at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Alund, an eight-time FIA European Drag Racing Pro Stock champ, is considered one of Europe’s most dominating drag racers. He won five of the last six races and the 2013 championship, and set the continent’s Pro Stock elapsed time (6.534 seconds) and speed (213.31 mph) records in the quarter-mile.
Alund is substituting for the first part of the NHRA season for Black’s regular driver, four-time NHRA Mellow Yellow Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson, who is missing the first six races of the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series while recovering from heart surgery.
Line finished third in the Mello Yello Series points standings in 2013. He captured victories at Houston and Dallas and posted No. 1 qualifying positions at Charlotte, N.C., and Reading, Pa.
“It’s great being a community-oriented dealership and we especially appreciate visits by people from the auto-racing industry,” Findlay Chevrolet General Manager Jamaal McCoy said.
The event will also feature a live remote radio broadcast by KCYE-FM (102.7), food, autographs, music and a prize giveaway.
Findlay Chevrolet is part of Findlay Automotive Group, which was founded more than 50 years ago by the late Pete Findlay, whose son, Cliff, heads new and preowned vehicle operations in Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Idaho.
